Wedding Cake F.A.Q’s

Here are some of my most frequently asked questions……

  • Don’t worry too much at this stage, we will determine how many tiers and how much cake you need during your tasting consultation. It varies depending on a number of things including the design (height and diameter of each tier), how many guests you are having, whether you are having the cake for desert or just in the evening, and if you would like extra cake to take home after the big day! As a rough indication one of my 3 tier designs will provide around 95 finger (evening) portions.

  • Yes absolutely, I deliver and set up all my wedding cakes. They are incredibly heavy and require expert knowledge to ensure they are correctly and safely stacked. Celebration cakes however are generally on a collection basis only.

  • I offer a free delivery and set up service for venues within a 10 mile radius of my studio in Feering, Essex.

For venues further afield, the first 10 miles are free and additional mileage is .70pence per mile (round trip). This includes up to 2 hours set up time at the venue.

  • I have a number of beautiful cake stands available for hire and during our consultation I will recommend which one will best compliment your cake design. There is a £15 hire fee plus a security bond of £100 which is returned to you once the stand is returned to me. All the details are contained in my Cake Stand Hire Terms & Conditions form which I can provide you with.

Venues do also generally offer stands as well, so check with them what kind of stands they have. You want your cake to be displayed in the most amazing way and the stand or props used are really important. I can guide you on this during your consultation.

  • Indeed I do! These make such a beautiful accompaniment to your main cake display.

From highly decorative cookies, to luxury Belgium chocolates to macarons, meringues and traybakes, the choice is vast! Check out the ‘favour’ gallery for inspiration.

  • It’s really hard to give you a definitive answer here because it depends on the design and size of your cake.

A design with sugar flowers or intricate decorative elements will of course cost more than a simple design with fresh flowers.

There is a minimum order value of £600 for weddings which can include favours and/or desert table treats.

My couples generally spend around £700-900 for their cake display, but please don’t be put off by this if your cake budget is different. Get in touch and let’s discuss how we can work together!

  • Yes! In fact the majority of couples do just that. This is a great way to ensure you have the flavours you love whilst catering for the majority of your guests.

  • All my cakes and sweet treats are created in my kitchen studio where gluten, dairy, eggs & nuts are used. Gluten free alternatives are available for most of my cake flavours but I am unable to cater for people with allergies or serious intolerances.

  • The majority of my wedding cakes are iced with a sugar-paste covering but I do also offer buttercream iced and semi naked wedding cakes. However, these are not available during the months of June-September due to the issues that the (potential) hot weather can cause. The last thing I would want is for your beautiful cake to melt on your special day.

I do not offer naked wedding cakes, and the reason is because the moistness is compromised by the fact that the bare cake is exposed to the air which causes it to dry out very quickly.
